Life is a bowl of strawberries

Life is a bowl of strawberries. On Sunday June 21, 2009, Father's Day we went to a farm about twenty minutes from Lynwood, Washington and picked 20 pounds of strawberries. The "We" consisted of Grandma, Grandpa, Momma, Daddy and three wonderful granddaughters. The picking was pretty easy. They gave you a huge box and pointed you in the direction of the strawberry fields. Then you bent over and started picking the sweetest berries in sight. Some of the participants were able to pick and eat berries as fast as they could. Every once in a while they would put berries in the box. But Grandma is allergic to strawberries, so she just picked and put them in the box. I think the time we spent was a little over and hour. We were all surprised when we weighed the boxes and found out we had 20 pounds. It was really a fun exercise for all of us.

Then it took several hours to picked the stems off each and every berry. Grandma, Momma and granddaughter Cassidy hung in there till the last and we felt pretty good about a job well done. The berries needed to be washed and spread some in the freezer to freeze seperately. We also made strawberry freezer jam and everyone said it was great. The bowl of strawberries pictured above was such a lovely sight. It was a very fun day.
